What I think

StartNewsletter.net is a simple idea generation tool for people looking to start or grow a newsletter. The concept is straightforward: enter a topic and get back current newsletter ideas, along with an easy path into Beehiiv via affiliate links.

Overall, I think it's a solid little project. The design is clean, the user journey is easy to understand, and there aren't any major usability problems. At this stage the biggest challenge isn't the product itself. It's getting enough qualified traffic to make the affiliate model work.

What works

The site feels modern and uncluttered. Nothing gets in the way of using the tool, and the overall experience is pleasant.

The niche positioning is useful. ChatGPT can already generate newsletter ideas, but there's still value in a focused tool built around a single problem. People searching specifically for newsletter ideas may prefer a purpose-built solution over a general chatbot.

The ideas it generated felt topical and relevant, and the structure is a genuinely useful starting point that you can then expand with an AI tool of your own.

The affiliate model makes sense too. Using the tool as a free lead generator for Beehiiv is a sensible way to monetise, and Beehiiv's programme is generous, so there's good long-term potential if the site attracts organic traffic.

What I'd change

The branding could have more personality. The logo feels fairly generic at the moment, and a stronger identity would make the site more memorable, especially for people discovering it through Google or social.

The biggest question I had was: why would I use this instead of ChatGPT? I'd make the value proposition much clearer. Curated, up-to-date ideas. Built specifically for newsletter creators. Faster than prompting AI yourself. Links to current news and trends. If people instantly understand the advantage, conversions should improve.

I'd also surface "Generate Your Own Ideas" earlier. On individual idea pages it isn't obvious that you can generate ideas for any niche, so I'd move that button much higher up.

The real opportunity is SEO

This feels like an SEO business more than a software business. The main objective now should be attracting highly targeted search traffic.

I'd build more landing pages around specific newsletter niches, create supporting blog content, earn backlinks through outreach, and make sure everything is submitted to Search Console and indexing properly. Pages targeting searches like "AI newsletter ideas", "real estate newsletter ideas" or "ecommerce newsletter ideas" could capture people looking for very specific inspiration before introducing them to the generator.

If the numbers work, it's also worth testing search ads. If you can acquire a visitor for less than the affiliate commission from a Beehiiv sign-up, there may be room to scale profitably.

What I'd do next

• Focus almost entirely on organic traffic, backlinks and SEO rather than new features.
• Make the "Generate Your Own Ideas" action far more prominent.
• Clarify, in one line, why someone should use this instead of ChatGPT.
• Strengthen the branding so it's more memorable.
• Build niche landing pages to capture specific newsletter-idea searches.
